The Captain 05:40
Late one night at what you wouldn´t call a respectable Inn we found a lonely sailor soaked in saltwater and gin Asked for his name he just murmured a vague captain title (Looked more like a hobo to me, I thought, both eyes and hands too idle) He claimed that he was on a route since God knows when Tour & Retour to the shores since it all began We couldn´t help beset him with our curious questions He answered vaguely - alas, we became more pressing He told us almost nothing Just a few things about birds circling the smokestacks, shrieking, their sounds ghostly like words "Why do they shriek?" we asked him "I think they laugh at us, stuck down here on the surface, our struggles not enough The biggest birds go further than any sailor dares and if they could they´d tell us what they found out there I think they want to warn us I think they want to I think from high above they see something that makes them turn back shrieking" We hear them long before we see them, but they surely see us Then we asked him what cargo he brought on his route and his glance suddenly turned both angry and brute Then he gulped from his drink, had a cig from his pack "Why, I bring people there, but they never go back" "What? They never go back? What´s that supposed to mean?" But he turned from us all, fixed his eyes on the screen on the wall We hear them long before we see them, but they surely see us
